The proposal looks at architecture of the Auditorium + Dining and Student Housing as an: “instrument of connection” (Aldo Van Eyck). Much like cities, where the private, semi-private and public realms collide and mutually activate each other, the 3 acre parcel re-looks at institution building exploring Flexibility and Adaptation; Modular Design, use of repetitive units/ grids to form larger wholes for ease of building and economy and most importantly on way of living in the Indian context – under shaded, verandah like spaces, exploring tropical notions of interiority-exteriority and publicness, to create a convivial student hub which is inclusive and ecologically sensitive.
